SUFFOLK, Va. — One person was rescued after a fire broke out at a Suffolk apartment building on Sunday night.
Firefighters responded to a call of a commercial structure fire just after 8:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of Crowdy Boulevard. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the 2-story apartment with multiple people jumping out of first and second-story windows. A second alarm was called and firefighters also rescued one person who was trapped by heavy smoke and fire on the first floor.
One person was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment and the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
The fire was brought under control at 9:11 p.m.
The Suffolk Fire Marshal's Office is investigating what caused the fire.
