SUFFOLK, Va. — The wait is almost over for a popular Florida-based grocery store chain's arrival to Southside Hampton Roads.

A new Publix Super Market will have its grand opening in Suffolk on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 7 a.m.

Publix at Planters Station is located at 3189 Godwin Boulevard, by Kings Fork Road. A Publix spokesperson said the new store is 46,791 square feet in size and will employ approximately 130 workers.

It will be the third Publix to open in the region, following Publix grocery stores in Williamsburg and Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, both of which opened in 2018. Even more Publix Super Markets are on the way, with the company announcing new locations in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Carrollton planned for 2024.

The first Publix opened in 1930 in Florida and the company has grown to more than 1,000 stores across the Southeast. It often ranks near the top of the most popular grocery stores in the United States.
