Peet's Coffee to open roastery in Suffolk, create 135 new jobs

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) Peet's Coffee has chosen Suffolk to be the home of it's East Coast roastery. 

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) Peet's Coffee has chosen Suffolk to be the home of it's East Coast roastery.

Governor Terry McAulliffe said Virginia competed against five other Mid-Atlantic states for the project.

“Virginia’s strategic location, business climate, and top-notch workforce continue to attract high-caliber companies, and this project is a significant win for the City of Suffolk and the Hampton Roads region," said McAulliffe.

The company is expected to invest roughly $58 million to build a 175,000 square-foot roastery that will produce variety of coffee.

The project is expected to create 135 new jobs in Suffolk.

To seal the deal, Governor McAuliffe approved a $1 million grant from the Commonwealth Opportunity Fund to assist Suffolk with the project. The company will be eligible to receive sales and use tax exemptions on manufacturing equipment.

The move is expected to bring an increase of traffic into the Port of Virginia. In return, Peet's Coffee is said to receiving benefits from the Port and Infrastructure Development Zone Grant Program.
