One boater was injured early Saturday in a Suffolk waterway when skiff struck an object

The injured person was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk firefighters rescued three boaters from a skiff that ran into an object early Saturday morning.

The call happened near Riverside Drive, at the confluence of Bennett’s Creek and the Nansemond River. It was called in at 1:10 a.m., according to a social media post from the Suffolk Department of Fire & Rescue.

The three boats were in a 19-foot Carolina skiff that ran into an object in the water, causing significant damage and loss of power. One subject was thrown overboard but was able to reboard the vessel with the assistance of the others prior to firefighters’ arrival.

FireBoat 1 arrived at 1:40 a.m., boarded the disabled vessel and treated the injured occupant. It then towed the disabled vessel to Decoys Seafood Marina and delivered the boaters to medics.

One person was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. The other two refused transport.
