SUFFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State University (NSU) Basketball program gave students a big back-to-school surprise on Wednesday.
The NSU Men's Team visited Nansemond High School for its first annual Adopt A Classroom initiative.
The goal was to fill classrooms with much-needed school supplies.
Mrs. Scott, a first-year teacher at Nanesmond River High School, was selected from several applications of names submitted through the city of Suffolk. Many people tagged Mrs. Scott on NSU's social media posts about the initiative saying she was a great teacher and that her classroom should be adopted.
"A lot of teachers don't have everything they need all the time," said Mrs. Scott. "I just feel blessed to have been chosen and not just with my classroom supplies being given to me, but the game that the students can go to. "
Norfolk State University said it plans to continue its Adopt A Classroom initiative.
