SUFFOLK, Va. — Bon Secours announced on Thursday that the State Health Commissioner has approved Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center’s application to establish a hospital at the Harbour View campus.
M. Norman Oliver, MD, MA of the Virginia Department of Health, approved the application to transfer over a dozen acute care beds, and four operating rooms from Bon Secours Maryview in Portsmouth to establish a short-stay, surgically-focused hospital on the Bon Secours Harbour View campus in north Suffolk.
“This is very positive news for our community,” said Paul Gaden, CEO for Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. “We believe that our innovative approach to providing short-stay surgical care will improve access to inpatient surgical care while improving the patient experience and allowing area residents to obtain care in their community.”
About $77 million is expected to be invested into developing the 75,000 square-foot, two-story facility. The new hospital will be on the northeast corner of Bon Secours Drive and Harbour Towne Parkway.
Groundbreaking on the new hospital is expected in early 2019, and the project is expected to take 18 to 24 months.
