Mother of Suffolk teen speaks out after video showing accidental shooting

The video shows a 17-year-old known as "Rylo Huncho" singing into a camera while holding a gun. The video abruptly ends after the teen points the gun at himself.

SUFFOLK, Va. — A video posted to social media may have captured the final moments of a local teen.

The video shows a teen singing into a camera while holding a gun. The video abruptly ends right after the teen points the gun at himself.

A Suffolk family confirms the video is of 17-year-old Raleigh Freeman III who died last week.

13News Now spoke to Monica Savage, Raleigh's mother, on Tuesday. Savage described the devastating moment she found her only child lying hurt on the floor.

“When I came in the house, and I seen my son in his blood... I ran across the street, and I almost got hit by a car for going across the street trying to save my son’s life," Savage said.

Savage said Raleigh was an aspiring rapper who went by the stage name “Rylo Huncho.” She said his dream was to pursue music.

“He had some nice music on YouTube," Savage said. "He got some nice songs. He rap real good.”

While Suffolk Police couldn’t confirm the identity of the person in the video, investigators say a 17-year-old died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday night. Investigators believe the shooting to be accidental.

Savage says detectives are still searching Raleigh’s phone to uncover what exactly happened. The mother said she doesn't know where her son got the gun.

“I didn’t know he had a gun. I did not know he had that," Savage said.

As for their message to the community, Raleigh’s family urges Hampton Roads teens to stay away from guns.

“I just want my baby back. That’s all I want," Savage cried. "I miss my baby.”

The family said Raleigh will be laid to rest Friday. They’re choosing to keep the specifics of his funeral private.
