SUFFOLK, Va. — A man has been seriously injured in a home accident on Wednesday, Suffolk Fire & Rescue said.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to a flash fire at a home at 6335 Whaleyville Blvd around 10:16 a.m.

When crews arrived they found a man suffering from severe burns. He was airlifted by Nightingale Air Ambulance to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to the Suffolk Fire Marshal's Office, the investigation determined there was an attempt to dismantle a pressurized container labeled "Instant Insulation Adhesive" using a grinder tool. A spark ignited, causing a “flash fire, " injuring the man.

Suffolk’s Fire Marshal Battalion Chief Chris Cornwell reminds everyone of the dangers of assuming any pressurized container is empty of all vapor and “never cut or weld on a pressurized vessel as the residual vapor should be considered extremely flammable.”
