SUFFOLK, Va. — One person suffered minor burns after a kitchen fire ignited at a Suffolk apartment complex, officials said.
In a social media post, Suffolk Fire & Rescue said crews arrived at the apartment on Forest Oak Lane, just off Carolina Road shortly after 7 p.m.
As crews worked to extinguish the fire, smoke spread through four adjacent apartments. The fire was contained to the apartment where the blaze started, with officials saying that smoke heavily damaged the unit.
The blaze was brought under control just before 7:15 p.m.
The Red Cross is helping two residents who cannot stay in their homes due to the blaze.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
