Heavy fire destroys two-story home in Suffolk

Suffolk Fire Chief Mike Barakey said no one was injured in the fire, but an adult and two children have been displaced from their home.

SUFFOLK, Va. — A family in Suffolk has been displaced from their home after a residential fire early Sunday morning.

Suffolk Fire Chief Mike Barakey said crews were called out to Hollywood Avenue around 2:30 a.m. for heavy fire coming from a two-story home.

The fire had gone up the back of the house and into the attic, causing extensive fire and smoke damage, he said. Firefighters were able to control the flames in a little over an hour.

One adult and two children who lived there were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived. Barakey said no one was injured.

The Fire Marshal's Office is still investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
