Crews working to contain gas leak in Suffolk

Citizens are urged to avoid the area until crews have it handled.

SUFFOLK, Va. — Virginia Natural Gas is working to contain a gas leak on Kenyon Road that ruptured by nearby construction Wednesday, Suffolk Fire-Rescue said.

Laborers were working in the area of Kenyon Road between Hamer Road and Kenyon Court at around noon when they struck a gas line, causing it to rupture. Responding fire crews moved the nine workers away from the area.

Citizens are urged to avoid the area until crews have it handled.

Suffolk Fire-Rescue said no one has been reported injured at this time.
