Firefighters respond to Food Lion fire in Suffolk

Suffolk Fire & Rescue reported the incident on their social media around 12:50 p.m.

SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk Fire & Rescue (SFR) and the Chesapeake Fire Department (CFD) responded to a fire incident at a Food Lion Tuesday.

The crews were dispatched to the 3200 block of Bridge Road around 11:40 a.m.

Upon investigation, Dominion Energy found that a power outage happened further along Bridge Road in the 3800 block, causing a phase to drop in the North Suffolk area.

Crews with SFR and CFD worked to isolate the smoke in the building, which was mostly contained to the rear of the building in the stock room area.

A Suffolk Fire & Rescue social media post first showed crews working to isolate the source of a fire at the Food Lion.

Just after 1:30 p.m., crews found the smoke coming from the main motor that burned in a large HVAC unit that served the rear of the business.

Crews were able to isolate the issue and powered down that HVAC unit has until repairs could be made. Employees were able to return to the story by 1:40 p.m. Tuesday evening.

No one was injured in this incident.
