Fire envelops Suffolk home overnight, displaces 2

Heavy fire and smoke were coming from the residence when crews first responded.

SUFFOLK, Va. — Flames engulfed a house in Suffolk overnight, leaving one adult and a minor without a home, according to a release on Sunday.

The fire broke out at the single-story home located near Lincoln Avenue and Harrison Street at around 1:36 a.m., Suffolk Fire & Rescue said. Heavy fire and smoke were coming from the residence when crews first responded.

While using an "aggressive" fire attack, officials say firefighters searched the home and confirmed all residents had made it out safely. A spokesperson for the department said the blaze was brought under control just minutes after 2 a.m.

No one was hurt in the fire, however, two residents were displaced.

Photos of the scene show the fire enveloping the home and subsequently scorched and much of it blackened.

The Fire Marshal's Office is working to determine what caused the fire.
