SUFFOLK, Va. — The man who coached the Salem High School girls basketball team for more than 10 years has been arrested on charges of assaulting and kidnapping a woman.
According to police in Suffolk, 48-year-old Timothy Wayne Carr physically assaulted an adult woman and then restrained her from leaving the scene in the early morning hours of July 4.
The woman was treated by first responders at the scene and was taken to the hospital for further treatment.
Carr is charged with abduction and kidnapping, aggravated malicious wounding, strangle another causing wounding or injury, and breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny. Suffolk police say Carr could face additional charges.
According to a spokeswoman with Virginia Beach Public Schools, Carr coached the Salem girls basketball team for 11 seasons, from 2000 to 2014. He has not been employed with the division since August of 2014.
Carr is currently being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
