Dog rescued from fire at Suffolk home

A home on Berry Ridge Lane caught fire early Saturday morning.

SUFFOLK, Va. — A dog was rescued from a fire at a Suffolk home early Saturday morning.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue were called to the 200 block of Berry Ridge Lane at 2:33 a.m., according to a press release from Chief Michael Barakey. They arrived at 2:37 a.m. to find heavy fire showing from the two-story home, with the siding on the neighbor’s home already melting and smoking.

At 2:58 a.m., the incident commander ordered an evacuation of all interior crews due to untenable conditions inside the structure. An exterior attack was continued until 3:25 a.m., when crews were able to re-enter the structure. The fire was placed under control at 3:53 a.m.

One dog was rescued from the home, received emergency medical care from paramedics and firefighters, and is doing well, the press release stated. No citizens or firefighters were injured.

Fire Marshal 3 is leading the investigation into the cause of the blaze.
