1 dead after tractor-trailer crashes in Suffolk, catches fire

Suffolk officials were first alerted to reports of a crash and a down power line in the area of Holland Road and Studio Drive.

SUFFOLK, Va. — A person is dead following a fiery tractor-trailer crash in the early morning hours Saturday, Suffolk Fire & Rescue (SF&R) said in a Facebook post.

Suffolk fire crews and police were initially alerted to reports of a crash and a down power line on Holland Road shortly before 3 a.m.

When officials arrived at the scene, they found a large brush fire and a tractor hauling a shipping container ablaze. SF&R said the tractor-trailer had driven off the roadway, striking several trees.

Officials said the saddle tank ruptured but was ultimately contained. Further, crews are working to confirm what contents were inside the shipping container.

After the fire was put out, crews found 37-year-old Brandon Teague of Greensboro, North Carolina, deceased in the cab of the tractor.

There's no word on what led up to the incident. The Suffolk Police Department is handling the crash investigation while the Fire Marshal is looking into the blaze.
