SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A homicide investigation is underway after a body was found in the street in Suffolk on Monday morning.
Police said they found a body on the corner of Dill Road and Bidwell Street around 4:30 a.m.
Police identified the shooting victim as 23-year-old Kiara M. Etheridge of Norfolk.
Neighbors like Jerreal Lively tell 13News Now that they woke up to police knocking on their doors.
“I just hope and pray to God that you know we don’t have that again," said Lively. “Make you think that you know, who’s going to be next?”
Lively said police officers asked him if he heard any gunshots on Sunday night, and like other neighbors we found, they all said no.
Joyce White-Johnson said she's lived along the block for 11 years.
“I mean, I don’t know what to say. I really don’t, I’m just in shock,” said White-Johnson. “Something like that could actually happen, I just hope it’s an isolated incident and I’m sorry for the family.”
According to Suffolk Police, the investigation remains ongoing and Detectives are following up on several leads.
