SUFFOLK, Va. — A fire badly damaged two apartments in Suffolk early Wednesday.
Suffolk Fire & Rescue says they responded to a commercial structure fire at the Arbors in the 5600 block of Shoulders Hill Road.
Dispatch received a notification of a fire alarm activation just before 4:30 a.m. The first units arrived just about five minutes after the notification.
Responders saw smoke and fire coming from a balcony on the second and third floor of a four-story apartment-style assisted living facility.
The fire was quickly extinguished and residents were removed from apartments near the fire. Smoke had entered several apartments but the fire had not reached much of the interior of the apartments. Smoke was removed from the building on all affected floors.
Two apartments sustained damage from smoke, fire and water and the occupants are being assisted by property managers to have housing. There were no injuries to firefighters or residents.
Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
