4 adults, 2 children displaced after house fire in Suffolk

According to Suffolk Fire & Rescue, they were dispatched to the scene of the fire at 10:43 p.m. Saturday.

SUFFOLK, Va. — Six people, including two children, were displaced after a house fire in Suffolk Saturday evening, according to a press release from Suffolk Fire & Rescue.

Firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire on the 100 block of North 9th Street at 10:43 p.m.

When crews arrived minutes later, they found heavy smoke escaping the one-story home, fire venting from the side and rear – and very close to a neighboring home.

According to Suffolk Fire & Rescue, the blaze was under control at 11:05 p.m. The house sustained significant fire and smoke damage throughout; and while the neighboring home, did not catch fire, it did sustain thermal damage from the heat of the fire.

The four adults and two children displaced by this incident are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
