3 displaced after apartment fire in Suffolk

Suffolk Fire & Rescue Fire Marshal 7 is investigating what caused an allegedly accidental apartment fire on Godwin Boulevard Wednesday morning.

SUFFOLK, Va. — Two adults and one juvenile were displaced after a fire damaged their two-story townhome-style apartment building on Wednesday morning.

According to Suffolk Fire & Rescue, they were dispatched to the 5700 Block of Godwin Boulevard at 9:03 a.m., arrived minutes later and found smoke coming from the building.

Fire crews said they were greeted by a kitchen fire when they entered the first floor of the structure.

Around 9:30 a.m. crews were able to get the fire under control after containing it in the kitchen, however, the entire building suffered "moderate smoke damage."

No firefighters or civilians were hurt as a result of the fire, but two adults and one juvenile were displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting them.

Fire Marshal 7 is leading the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. At this time, they believe the fire was accidental.
