PORTSMOUTH, Va. — At approximately 5 p.m., Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services responded to the 2500 block of Azalea Drive for a report of a residential fire. Navy Regional Fire Rescue Hampton Roads assisted as well.

When crews arrived, they noted heavy smoke coming from multiple windows and fire coming from the side and rear of the home.

Crews initially attempted to put the fire out from the inside, but they had to go back outside after high heat and poor visibility, Portsmouth Fire said. They then tried to extinguish the fire by hosing water from the outside into the home, which was able to put out the fire just enough to where they could enter the home again.

The fire was officially extinguished at 5:52 p.m.

Two adults were displaced as a result of the fire, and the American Red Cross is assisting them. No one was injured as a result of the fire.

Portsmouth Fire Marshals determined the fire was caused by an electrical issue.
