Two charged, woman sought in May murder in Portsmouth

The charges are related to the fatal shooting of Antwain Lamond Terry on May 11. Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting on Wilcox Avenue.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Portsmouth Police Department says two people have been charged in the murder of a man on Wilcox Avenue earlier this year, and one woman has failed to turn herself in to police.

Brittane Monique Whitfield, 36, is charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. She was set to voluntarily turn herself in to police on Monday and did not do so. Portsmouth Police are seeking the public's help locating her.

In addition, detectives arrested 25-year-old Keonte Jamal Whitfield and charged him with:

  • first-degree murder
  • possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • discharge of a firearm in public places
  • reckless handling of a firearm
  • discharge of a firearm in or across a roadway

The charges are related to the fatal shooting of Antwain Lamont Terry on May 11. Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting on Wilcox Avenue around 7:30 p.m. that Saturday evening.

At the time, 13News Now spoke to several nearby residents who recalled hearing gunshots and seeing an injured man lying in the street. One woman said she witnessed someone ride a bike away from the scene.
