PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Smoke damage caused by a house fire in Portsmouth Wednesday afternoon has forced four people, including a child, out of their home temporarily, Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services said.
It happened in the 50 block of Greeneland Boulevard, between Foxgrape and Cherry roads, just before 2 p.m. No one was home when the blaze erupted. Someone passing by the house, however, heard the smoke alarm going off and called 911.
The fire was contained to a closed room, so firefighters were able to put out the flames quickly.
Fire officials said the family and friends of those displaced are helping them.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
