PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Portsmouth opened Safety Town for families to visit during spring break on Tuesday.
Some children and parents spent time visiting Safety Town, a learning environment set up to simulate an actual neighborhood. It was open for a day of fun and free activities during spring break.
"Safety Town is just a magical place, that since 1975 we've been providing pedestrian safety, bicycle safety and stranger danger safety," Bruce LaLonde, the president of the Safety Town Advisory Committee said.
It's a partnership between the city council, schools and the Portsmouth Police Department to help neighbors learn about pedestrian and bike safety.
Portsmouth Public Schools students visit Safety Town in kindergarten, first and third grade to practice pedestrian and bike safety.
