Rivers Casino Portsmouth made over $9M in January

The lottery's report is the first indicator of how the first permanent casino in Hampton Roads is performing so far.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The newly-opened Rivers Casino Portsmouth made more than $9 million in gaming revenues in January, the Virginia Lottery announced Wednesday.

The lottery's report is the first indicator of how the state's first permanent casino is performing. The numbers reflect gaming activity for a partial month of activity since the casino opened on Jan. 23.

The casino made $7,451,244.83 from slots and $1,588,044.95 from table games. The total revenue is $9,039,289.78, with $1,627,072.16 taxed.

The report also detailed how Virginia's other casino, HR Bristol, which is operating out of a temporary facility, is doing. The Bristol Casino made a total of $13,434,546.28 in January.

In total, both casinos brought in a total of $22,473,836.06 in gaming revenues and $3,030,828.41 in taxes.
