PORTSMOUTH, Va. — There's a new opportunity for kids in Portsmouth to attend summer camp for free.
Portsmouth City Council approved $115,000 to offer spots for the city's Summer Rays Program at no cost from June to August.
The money covers 400 kids which is the most the program can take.
Kids from ages five to 17 can enjoy sports and other activities.
Council member DeAndre Barnes proposed the idea and the rest of the council agreed Children must be registered.
Families who have already paid will get refunds.
