Princess for a Day coming to Hampton Roads

The program, returning on March 23 at the Renaissance Portsmouth-Norfolk Hotel, brings young girls together and teaches them etiquette and poise.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Nothing beats the feeling of the first time a little girl puts a crown on. Princess for a Day is dedicated to reminding young girls of that feeling every day.

The program, which has run for eight years, is returning on March 23 at the Renaissance Portsmouth-Norfolk Hotel.

It brings girls between the ages of 3 and 16 together and teaches them etiquette and poise. Plus, participants will have a chance to walk with local pageant winners.

It's a program to "remind [young girls] they're beautiful just the way they are," said Coressa Williams, executive director of the program. "In the world that we live in today, there are so many stereotypes, there's so many things our children are facing. To have a program and a platform to allow them to internalize their self-worth, their self beauty — it's a win-win situation all the way around.

"It allows them to own who they are," Williams added.

To sign up for the event, visit the Princess for a Day website.
