PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The family of a critically missing teenager is desperate to reunite with their son.
On behalf of the Portsmouth Police Department, Virginia State Police issued an Ashanti Alert Thursday night for Daquan Rountree.
Loved ones haven't seen the 19-year-old since December 11, at around 12:30 a.m. at the 900 block of 5th Street. Police say that was his last known verified location.
In doorbell camera footage viewed by 13News Now, Daquan is seen running from his father's home on Pulaski Street in Portsmouth. He wasn't wearing any clothes.
Gabriel Rountree said his son wanted to harm himself. While Gabriel rushed to put potential weapons out of his reach, Daquan ran from the house.
Family members aren't sure what brought on Daquan's behavior.
"He wasn't in his right mind. Before any of this, he was a normal child, a normal young man, no issues, regular job, graduated from school, no issues," said Gabriel.
Relatives are calling on the community and law enforcement's support.
"We've been here every day just trying to search him, find him. We want to bring him home," said Daquan's stepfather Tramaine Gray. "I just want to let him know we love him and we're looking for him."
"He went missing on Sunday night. [Police] didn't get the bloodhounds out to my property until Wednesday. That's not satisfactory. That's too slow. That's too slow of an effort to be moving like that, getting these dogs out here for the search," Gabriel added.
The family is putting out its own $1,000 reward for information leading to Daquan's safe return.
If you see Daquan or know where he is, call 911.
