One suspect arrested in Portsmouth's Dale Drive shooting

One man is facing several charges in connection to Friday's homicide. Police are still looking for other suspects in the crime.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — On Friday around 11 p.m., Portsmouth police officers responded to the 200 block of Dale Drive after hearing shots fired.

Daniel Christian Rodgers, 28, was found with serious life-threatening gunshot wounds. Rodgers was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics who also responded.

On Monday police arrested Marquise Toraz Riddick-Whitfield, 23. He is being charged with aggravated murder, attempted robbery, use of a firearm, shooting in committing or attempting a felony, and shooting with intent to maim or kill, Portsmouth police confirm.

Investigators are still searching for two persons of interest, two unknown male suspects who were captured on video during the incident.

At a press conference on Saturday, Rodgers' mother Vontrece Rodgers spoke to the audience. She urged the public to come forward with information.

“Everybody knows how to reach me if they have any answers. To be able to provide information to the proper police department so we can get this closure to my son's death." Rodgers said.
