PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A man died after being shot in Portsmouth Thursday afternoon, police said.
Officers responded to a call reporting a shooting in the 2400 block of High Street around 2:25 p.m.
According to the Portsmouth Police Department, store employees said the shooting happened after an altercation with a man who attempted to take items from the store.
Police identified the victim as Rahsaan Nixon, 27, who had left the premises after being shot. He died at the hospital and his next of kin has been notified. In a statement, Police Chief Stephen Jenkins confirmed Nixon was the one who tried to steal from the store.
