PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Portsmouth Police Department is investigating four shooting incidents that occurred within hours of each other early Sunday.

According to a city press release, police have determined the shootings are unrelated.

First, police responded to a call about a shooting in the 600 block of Lancer Drive at around 12:26 a.m., the press release stated. When officers arrived they found 53-year-old Michael Thomas Marshall shot multiple times. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene after he succumbed to his injuries.

A little over an hour later, at approximately 1:35 a.m., officers got another call, this time in the 2300 block of Elliott Avenue. When police got to the scene, they found a man, who was later identified as 33-year-old Michael Livermon, with a gunshot wound. Livermon was also pronounced dead at the scene by medics after he succumbed to his injuries.

About 15 minutes later, police arrived at a shooting at a lounge in the 1100 block of London Boulevard where they found three female lounge patrons suffering from various injuries; one was shot and the other two were injured by a vehicle that struck them whilst fleeing the scene. All three women were taken to local hospitals. Police said they have not released their names for the sake of women's privacy.

The last shooting police responded to early Sunday morning occurred in the 100 block of Navajo Trail at approximately 2:49 a.m. Officers found a man had been shot but could not determine where the actual crime scene was or whether the injury happened in Portsmouth.

“We are saddened by the loss of life that occurred early this morning,” said Police Chief Stephen Jenkins in the statement. “We are working diligently to gather all the facts related to these incidents and are asking for anyone with information to come forward to help detectives put all the pieces together. Our hearts go out to the families as they deal with these tragedies. We continue to ask for the community’s support as we work to address the violence within the city.”
