PORTSMOUTH, Va. — One person faces charges while another person is sought in connection to the shooting of a 10-year-old on Farragut Street Friday night, the Portsmouth Police Department (PPD) announced Saturday.
Keontre Thornhill was in his home when a dispute between teenage girls ended in a stray bullet traveling through his home and striking him, according to PPD.
Shawnday Nakisha Ross, 31, was arrested Saturday and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Police said she was not the one who fired the deadly shot, however.
Detectives are now asking for the public’s assistance in locating Cleon Deonte Banks, 26, in connection with the homicide. Banks is considered "armed and dangerous."
Both Portsmouth Police Chief Stephen Jenkins and Portsmouth Mayor Shannon Glover shared their concerns about Friday's shooting and gun violence in general, specifically involving youth.
"Any violence at any any time is always going to be unacceptable in the city of Portsmouth," Mayor Glover told 13News Now.
Police are urging anyone who may have more information to call the Crime Line at 1-888-562-5887.
