Portsmouth police want community feedback with new public survey

Police want input on a variety of topics, like the department's communication and overall satisfaction with its efforts to keep the community safe.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Portsmouth Police Department (PPD) wants to hear from you about how they're doing through a public survey.

The PPD said the goal is to understand the community's views on a variety of topics, like its communication and overall satisfaction with the department's efforts to keep the community safe.

The department said it will review the results and then use the responses to guide the department's five-year strategic plan.

"We cannot be afraid of critique," Police Chief Stephen Jenkins said in a news release. "This community and law enforcement survey will help us identify areas where we are excelling and where we can do better, as we continue our mission to protect and serve the residents of Portsmouth."

The survey closes on September 22. It can be filled out on the police department's website, and hard copies will also be available at city libraries and the Police Administration Building lobby, located at 206 High Street.
