PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Portsmouth man was sentenced to 17 years for making false statements to illegally straw-purchase firearms, the Department of Justice said.
This conviction comes after 42-year-old Dartanguia Antonious Lee, also known as Donte, Dante, Dionte, Snoop, Snookie, and Bully, was charged for having someone straw purchase 19 firearms for him.
According to court documents, from December 2019 until March 2020, Lee used his girlfriend as a straw purchaser to get 19 guns which often transferred to other convicted felons. Lee was previously charged with felony convictions for drug crimes and five convictions for robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Because he is a felon, he can't legally purchase or possess firearms or ammunition.
In September 2022, Lee was arrested in Greensboro, North Carolina in connection to a drug trafficking investigation involving firearms. Lee also faces charges in North Carolina.
