PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Portsmouth man pleaded guilty on Thursday to illegally possessing a machine gun, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said.

Brian Levarr Perry Jr., 24, is scheduled to be sentenced on May 15, 2024, and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

According to the DOJ, on June 9, 2022, the Portsmouth Police Department responded to a BP gas station on George Washington Highway after getting a call about two men with firearms.

The two men ran off when the officers got there.

The DOJ said the officers arrested Perry and patted him down, finding a Glock Model 33 firearm in his waistband with an auto sear attached to it.
