PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Portsmouth man was sentenced to five years in prison, all of which are suspended, on a charge of aggravated sexual battery Monday.
As part of his sentence, Michael Lee will undergo five years of supervised probation, register as a sex offender and complete sex offender treatment, according to the Portsmouth Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. He also can't have contact with the victim.
Lee's sentencing comes after pleading guilty to one count of aggravated sexual battery. He was arrested in September 2021 and originally charged with rape and several counts of forcible sodomy, according to the Portsmouth Police Department at the time.
Police didn't share much information about the crime, nor the victim's information to protect their privacy. Lee was arrested after a call for help from the 1000 block of Liston Lane, close to Cavalier Boulevard, police said.
Online court records show that Lee's forcible sodomy counts were nolle prossed, meaning the charges were set aside but could be reinstated at a later time.
