Portsmouth 5K walk raises awareness for people experiencing homelessness

The walk aims to remind the community that life can be difficult at times, but there is hope for a better future.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Although the weather was mild on Saturday, the Hampton Roads community came together for the third Coldest Night of the Year walk.

The 5K walk, hosted by Portsmouth volunteers for the homeless, helps raise awareness for those experiencing hurt, hunger and homelessness.

The walk aimed to remind the community that life can be difficult at times, but there is hope for a better future.

"Bringing the coldest night of the year to the City of Portsmouth is gonna be amazing," said Mayor Shannon Glover.

Organizers said this year's fundraiser was a massive success, raising over $50,000 for local charities.
