Garage fire spreads to home, displacing two people in Portsmouth

No one was hurt and the displaced residents are getting help from family to find a place to stay.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Two people are displaced after an early morning fire in Portsmouth.

The Portsmouth Fire Department said crews responded to calls of a garage fire around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 3100 block of Armistead Drive. They arrived to find the detached garage fully engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading to the neighboring home.

Firefighters say they put out the flames in about 20 minutes. Two people living inside the home got out unharmed and are getting help from family to find a new place to stay.

There is no word on what caused the fire at this time, but the Portsmouth Fire Marshals Office is investigating.
