PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A firefighter was taken to a local hospital Saturday after battling a fire in Portsmouth that displaced four people.
Around 4:30 p.m. Saturday Portsmouth emergency dispatchers got a call about a residential fire near the intersection of Sugar Creek Circle and Peachtree Lane, according to a release from Portsmouth Fire & Rescue.
About 35 firefighters from Portsmouth and Chesapeake responded to the scene. When crews arrived, they could see smoke coming from a single-story home. They were able to quickly contain the fire to the room where it started and extinguished it around 5 p.m.
One firefighter was injured and transported to a local hospital to be evaluated, the release said.
The American Red Cross is helping the three adults, one child and a family pet who were displaced after the fire.
The Portsmouth Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the cause of this fire.
