PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A crash in Portsmouth is under investigation after a car drove into an apartment building and burst into flames Friday night.
According to the police department, emergency dispatchers were notified of the crash around 6:02 p.m. It happened at the intersection of Portsmouth Boulevard and Mohawk Drive.
Police have not confirmed any injuries yet, but it is believed that at least one person could be dead after 13News Now crews saw officials carrying a body out of the car.
Kolby Mathena, teenager who witnessed the scene, said there was an explosion when the crash happened.
"I was in my room and my dad came in room. He said their was a big explosion and there's fire everywhere," Mathena said. "It just exploded… it was like smoke that came up."
Another neighbor who witnessed the crash said the car was traveling at high speeds before driving into the building.
Details are limited, but police have advised motorists to avoid the area around Greeneland Boulevard and Victory Boulevard.
