Person taken into Portsmouth police custody after barricade situation

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A person barricaded themselves in Portsmouth briefly, police officials say.

Portsmouth police sent out a press release around 12: 50 p.m. asking that citizens avoid using George Washington Highway near the Marsh Landing Apartments as they responded to a person who had barricaded themselves on the property. 

Officials updated at 12:50 p.m. that "the individual has been taken into custody without incident... regular traffic patterns can resume."
