UPDATE 12/8: Police have identified the victim as 25-year-old Antonio J. Atkins of Chesapeake.

PORTSMOUTH-- Police are investigating a double shooting that left one person dead and another injured in Portsmouth Friday morning.
Around 2 a.m. dispatchers received a 911 call requesting help for two adults who were shot while traveling in their vehicle on Effingham Street near Duke Street.
When officers arrived on the scene they found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds. The man, who was driving the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured woman was taken to Sentara Norfolk General. There is no word yet on her condition.
Police do not have any suspects or motives in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP
