PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A person died after a tent caught fire in Portsmouth early Monday morning.
Officials with Portsmouth Fire Rescue said it happened in the 10 block of Shea Street. Firefighters responded after getting a report of a shed on fire with a man inside. Crews arrived minutes later and found a tent that had been on fire.
According to fire officials, a person in the tent had been burnt, and they were pronounced dead at 8:30 a.m. It is unknown what led to the fire.
The Portsmouth Fire Marshals Office, the Portsmouth Police Department, and the Medical Examiner's office are working to find what caused the fire and identify the victim.
