PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Multiple people were displaced following a fire in Portsmouth Saturday night, according to Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Service.
Around 10:21 p.m., crews were notified of a residential structure fire in the 1900 block of Deep Creek Boulevard.
When they arrived, they found a single unit of a two-story multi-family dwelling on fire. The fire was eventually extinguished at 1:00 a.m.
While no firefighters or civilians reported injuries during this incident, multiple residents of the complex were displaced. They are being assisted by the Red Cross.
Ruth Bell who lives in the neighborhood. She tells 13 News Now that one of the residents came out of the smoking apartment asking for help and alerting neighbors in the apartments to get out.
"When she came across the street, the door blew open and it sounded like a shotgun or something had gone off, and when the door blew open it blew back. then it blew open again and then black smoke just started pouring out” Bell said.
The fire is currently under investigation.
