PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The body of a 19-year-old Portsmouth man who had not been seen in nearly a month has been found, family members confirmed to 13News Now.
Daquan Rountree ran from his home late on the night of December 10. His father, Gabriel Rountree, previously told 13News Now his son wasn't like himself the night he disappeared and wanted to hurt himself. This behavior is out of character for Daquan, his father said.
"We talk a lot ... but I wish I would have asked more questions. Like, 'What's really going on, son?' Sometimes, these uncomfortable conversations need to be had, because I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy," said Gabriel.
Virginia State Police issued a critically missing adult alert or Ashanti Alert for Daquan on December 14.
On Tuesday, January 9, the Portsmouth Police Department canceled its missing person alert without providing any other information. Daquan's family told 13News Now his body was found near Norfolk Naval Shipyard on Monday.
