Hampton Roads Regional Jail reports inmate death

According to a release, a guard was conducting security checks when he found the inmate unresponsive.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — An inmate was found unresponsive at Hampton Roads Regional Jail and was later pronounced dead on Monday.

During a security check, a correctional officer found 33-year-old Jakub Michael Plucinski unresponsive in his cell from what appeared to be a self-inflicted situation around 1:55 p.m.

The officer immediately called a medical code and lifesaving measures were initiated until Portsmouth Emergency Medical Services arrived.

Plucinski was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m. He arrived at Hampton Roads Regional Jail on March 9, 2018 and was serving a 12-month sentence for a hit-and-run in Chesapeake, an eight-month sentence for a probation violation from Norfolk and a six-month sentence for a probation violation from Stafford County.

The Portsmouth Police Department was notified and Hampton Roads Regional Jail is conducting an administrative review.
