PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Portsmouth firefighter was injured while responding to a house fire early Sunday.
Portsmouth officials say that around 3:00 a.m., Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services responded to a fire in the 20th block of Calvin Street near Portsmouth Boulevard.
When crews arrived they found a single-story multiplex with heavy smoke from the roof and fire underneath the home. An adult and child evacuated without injury.
Crews entered and got the fire under control and protected one of three units, the one occupied by the adult and child, from being condemned.
One firefighter was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials say the fire is under investigation by the Portsmouth Fire Marshal's Office.
