Detectives search for Christmas Eve shooting suspect

Detectives are working to track down a suspect who they say shot and injured a man on Christmas Eve.
32-year-old Kennyell Gatling is a suspect in a Christmas Eve shooting in Portsmouth, according to police.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- Detectives are working to track down a suspect who they say shot and injured a man on Christmas Eve.

Police are searching for 32-year-old Kennyell Gatling of Portsmouth. They believe he is the suspect behind a shooting in the 900 block of Randolph Street. Officers were called to that location at 7:39 p.m. on Christmas Eve where they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. Medics transported the victim to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities describe Gatling as a black male that stands approximately 5'10" tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

According to police, Gatling has active warrants on file for a slew of charges including malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is known to frequent the Prentis Park and Brighton areas.
