PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Former Portsmouth City Councilman Mark Whitaker will get a chance to appeal his felony forgery convictions.
Last year, a jury found Whitaker guilty of falsifying signatures on financial documents. The charges stemmed from loans from a credit union run by his church.
The Virginia Court of Appeals has ruled Whitaker's request could have merit, with the case now going before a three-judge panel. No hearing date has been set at this time.
