PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Portsmouth Public Schools confirmed that law enforcement are looking into allegations made against an employee at Churchland High School over the weekend on social media.
That employee was placed on administrative leave on Monday after the school division contacted law enforcement and Child Protective Services.
Portsmouth Public Schools provided 13News Now with the statement that principal Jennelle Burden sent out on Monday afternoon:
Good afternoon, Churchland families –
Over the weekend, our administration was made aware of disturbing allegations made against one of our staff members that were posted on social media.
We took immediate action and contacted both Child Protective Services and law enforcement. This is now a police matter, and the school division has no role except to support the investigation however needed.
That said, we understand that allegations of this nature can be upsetting for our students and families. Please know that our school counseling team is available for anyone who may want to talk. Families can also always access the division’s Here to Help webpage at ppsk12.us/heretohelp as well as the Care Solace service provider.
Thank you for your support of Churchland High School.
13News Now has reached out to the Portsmouth Police Department for more details on the matter; however a graphic post has surfaced from a person claiming to be a former student at the school. 13News Now has not been able to confirm this post is the one mentioned in the principal's letter.
This is a developing story. We will update this story further with more details when we receive them.
